Meeting the Talking Waterfall Chapter:3

Jeena and Mohinder followed the glowing path that stretched ahead of them, winding through groves of tall trees and vibrant patches of flowers that swayed as if greeting them. They couldn’t shake the feeling that the valley itself was watching, curious about its new visitors.
After a short walk, they arrived at the Moon Rabbit Clearing. It was a circular open space surrounded by tall, silvery trees whose branches intertwined to form a natural canopy overhead. The ground was blanketed in soft, white grass that seemed to sparkle in the faint light filtering through the trees.
As they stepped into the clearing, a quiet rustling came from the bushes nearby. Mohinder and Jeena froze, their eyes wide with anticipation.
Slowly, one by one, tiny creatures emerged. They looked like rabbits, but with shimmering silver fur and large, round eyes that glowed softly, like miniature moons. Their ears were long and graceful, and when they hopped, they left a faint trail of light behind them.
“They’re beautiful,” Jeena whispered, hardly able to believe what she was seeing.
One of the moon rabbits hopped closer, observing them with a curious tilt of its head. It was smaller than the others, with a tiny, heart-shaped spot of darker fur on its chest. The little rabbit seemed cautious, but its eyes sparkled with a glimmer of hope.
“Hello there,” Mohinder said gently, crouching down so he was at the rabbit’s level. “Are you… the moon rabbits the waterfall told us about?”
The little rabbit blinked and, to their amazement, began to speak.
“Yes, we are,” it said in a soft, musical voice. “My name is Luna, and this is my family.” She gestured with her paw to the other rabbits who were watching shyly from the edges of the clearing.
Jeena and Mohinder exchanged delighted glances. They were speaking to a real, live moon rabbit!
“What can we do to help you?” Jeena asked.
Luna’s ears drooped, and her eyes turned sad. “Ever since the curse fell on the valley, the plants here have stopped growing properly. There used to be a special fruit tree in this clearing that provided us with all the food we needed. But now, the tree has withered, and no fruit has grown for many moons. We’re hungry and weak, and without the fruit, we may not survive much longer.”
Jeena and Mohinder looked at each other, both feeling a surge of determination. “We’ll help you,” Mohinder said firmly. “We’ll figure out how to make the tree grow again.”
Luna’s eyes brightened with gratitude. “Thank you,” she whispered. “The tree is in the center of the clearing. But there’s something you should know—it’s protected by an ancient riddle. Only those who can solve it will be able to break the curse on the tree.”
“A riddle?” Jeena said, feeling both excited and nervous. “We’re ready.”
Luna led them to the center of the clearing, where a tall, gnarled tree stood. Its branches were bare, and its bark was gray and brittle. At the base of the tree was a small, round stone with strange symbols carved into it. As Jeena and Mohinder approached, the symbols began to glow faintly.
They knelt down, studying the stone carefully. The symbols rearranged themselves to form words that they could read:
“Only the seeds of light shall grow,
Where kindness, courage, and wonder flow.
Bring forth the fruit that moon rabbits seek,
And restore the magic that now lies weak.”
Jeena read the riddle aloud, her brow furrowed. “The seeds of light… kindness, courage, and wonder… What do you think it means?”
Mohinder thought for a moment. “Maybe it’s not just regular seeds we need. Maybe we have to do something to bring the tree back to life.”
Jeena nodded. “But what? Kindness, courage, and wonder… Could it mean we need to show those things?”
They both turned to look at Luna, who watched them with hopeful eyes. A sudden idea sparked in Maya’s mind.
“What if we show kindness to the moon rabbits?” she suggested. “Maybe that’s part of it.”
Mohinder nodded, catching on. He walked over to the other moon rabbits, who were watching with cautious curiosity. He knelt down and offered his hand, speaking to them in a gentle voice. “We’re here to help you, and we won’t let anything harm you,” he promised.
One by one, the moon rabbits approached, nudging his hand and pressing their noses against his palm. A soft glow appeared in the clearing, faint but unmistakable. The light seemed to come from the rabbits themselves, as if their spirits had brightened with hope.
“Look!” Jeena whispered, pointing to the tree. The bark seemed to be regaining a faint hint of color.
“We’ve shown kindness,” Mohinder said thoughtfully. “Now we need courage.”
Jeena took a deep breath and approached the tree. “I don’t know exactly what to do, but I’m not afraid to try,” she said bravely, reaching out to touch the trunk. “We’ll find a way to bring you back.”
As her hand touched the tree, a soft warmth spread through her fingertips. It was as if the tree itself recognized her courage, and she saw a few small, green leaves beginning to sprout from the branches.
“We did it!” Mohinder exclaimed softly, watching the tree come to life.
“Wait,” Jeena said, her voice thoughtful. “We still need to show wonder.”
Mohinder looked around, thinking. “Wonder… it’s about appreciating the magic of things, right? Like really seeing how incredible all of this is.”
He walked over to the moon rabbits and knelt down, gazing at them with awe. “You’re amazing,” he whispered. “Everything in this valley is so beautiful. We’re so lucky to be here, to see this with our own eyes.”
Jeena joined him, her heart swelling with gratitude and wonder as she looked around the clearing, feeling the life and magic of the valley all around her. “We’ve never seen anything like this,” she whispered. “And we’ll do everything we can to protect it.”
The glow around the moon rabbits grew brighter, casting a silvery light over the entire clearing. Slowly, the tree began to blossom, tiny buds appearing along the branches, then opening into shimmering silver flowers. Finally, small, radiant fruits began to form, each one glowing with a soft, gentle light.
Luna and her family hopped forward, their eyes shining with happiness. They reached up, nibbling the glowing fruit, and their fur became even brighter, their strength returning.
“Thank you,” Luna said, her voice full of gratitude. “You have saved us.”
Jeena and Mohinder smiled, feeling a deep sense of accomplishment and joy.
At that moment, the map in Maya’s hand began to glow, and a new path appeared, leading them to their next destination.
“We did it,” Jeena said, grinning at her brother. “We lifted the first part of the curse!”
Mohinder gave her a high-five. “Let’s keep going. We still have more to do!”
With a last wave to Luna and her family, Jeena and Mohinder turned to follow the glowing path, ready for the next chapter of their adventure in the Valley of Wonder.
